Lithuania’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has summoned a representative of the Russian Embassy in Vilnius to deliver a strong protest following Russia’s large-scale missile assault on Ukrainian cities during the night of June 17.
According to a statement, released by Lithuanian public broadcaster LRT on June 18, the ministry condemned the attacks, which killed and injured dozens of civilians and caused significant damage to residential buildings, educational institutions, and cultural sites.
“These strikes are part of an escalating terrorist campaign by Russia against Ukraine’s civilian population,” the ministry stated. “Ukraine continues to face daily missile and drone attacks deliberately targeting critical civilian infrastructure.”

Lithuania’s Foreign Ministry underscored that Russia’s actions demonstrate a “systematic disregard for international law,” a clear intent to escalate the war, and a lack of any genuine interest in a ceasefire or peaceful settlement.
The statement concluded with a call to the international community to intensify pressure on Russia and step up comprehensive support for Ukraine.
Earlier, European Union foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas stated on June 17 that Russian leader Vladimir Putin “cannot be trusted” to mediate peace in the Middle East while simultaneously waging war against civilians in Ukraine.
Her remarks followed a large-scale Russian missile strike on Kyiv that killed at least 24 people and injured more than 130.
