Drones targeted a critical Russian defense facility striking the “Progress” plant in Michurinsk, Tambov region—a major supplier of missile and aviation system components to Russia’s military-industrial complex, head of Ukraine’s Center for Countering Disinformation, Andrii Kovalenko, reported on June 6.

The strike reportedly triggered a fire and injured at least three people. The attack occurred around 2:15 a.m. local time and was likely carried out by a single-strike drone, according to preliminary information.

Kovalenko confirmed the strike in a statement:

“The Progress plant in Michurinsk was hit — it’s one of the key elements of Russia’s military-industrial complex. This is where Russia sources the components that power its missile and artillery systems,” he wrote.

“The plant specializes in high-precision electronics, including systems for targeting, stabilization, and fire control for artillery and multiple-launch rocket systems. Progress also develops elements for automated troop command systems — the very technology that enables the Russian military to coordinate strikes on our cities,” Kovalenko added.

He emphasized the plant’s close ties to Russia’s defense giants, including Rostec and Techmash:

“Progress is a major supplier to both Rostec and Techmash. Through plants like this, Russia maintains serial production of Giatsint, Msta, Tornado systems, and even components for Iskander missiles.”

Local officials confirmed a fire broke out at the plant following the explosion. Video footage showed flames rising behind a perimeter fence.

Emergency crews, including firefighters and paramedics, were quickly dispatched to the scene. Authorities temporarily blocked roads leading toward the facility, urging residents to avoid the area and use alternate routes.

Evgeny Pervyshov, acting governor of Tambov region, stated that three people were injured in the incident:

“Debris from a downed drone caused a fire at one of the enterprises, which was quickly extinguished. Unfortunately, three people were injured; two have been hospitalized,” he wrote.

Michurinsk’s Progress plant is known for producing advanced systems for missile and aviation guidance, as well as electronic components for both military and civilian use. In addition to defense systems, the plant also manufactures electrotechnical products for Russia’s oil and gas industry.

This strike comes as part of a broader Ukrainian campaign to degrade Russia’s military supply chains deep inside its own territory. On the same night, Ukrainian drones also targeted a fuel depot in Engels, struck the Dyagilevo airbase, and reportedly destroyed Russian military equipment at Bryansk airport.

Earlier, an explosion occurred near Bryansk Airport with a powerful blast reported close to the local facility.

Preliminary reports suggest that the Ukrainian Armed Forces have destroyed ballistic missile launchers in Bryansk, which were reportedly intended for a nighttime strike on Ukraine.
