Ukrainian military intelligence operatives struck a significant blow to Russian logistics in occupied southern Ukraine by targeting and destroying a fuel train, according to a video, released by the Main Intelligence Directorate (HUR) of Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense on May 25.

Footage published by HUR shows the moment an explosive-laden drone unit of Ukraine’s special operations tracked and destroyed a moving Russian military train carrying fuel in the temporarily occupied Zaporizhzhia region.

“Drone operators from the active operations units of HUR of Ukraine tracked and hunted down a Russian invaders' fuel train,” the agency reported.

“Precise strikes were delivered against the logistics target while it was in motion, along the railway section between Verkhniy Tokmak, Molochansk, and Fedorivka.”

At least three fuel tankers were destroyed in the strike, HUR confirmed, dealing a significant setback to Russian efforts to maintain supply lines between occupied territories in Zaporizhzhia and Crimea.

According to the CyberBoroshno OSINT community, the attack took place near the Novobohdanivka in Melitopol district—approximately 50 kilometers from the current front line.

“The rail delivery system used by the occupying forces to transport fuel and equipment has been disrupted,” HUR noted. “This strike is a critical blow to the enemy’s ability to support its forces in the south.”

The damaged route is part of a broader rail network that Moscow relies on to supply its forces in occupied areas, especially as it attempts to reduce dependence on the vulnerable Crimean Bridge.

Russia has been working to restore and expand its rail connections through occupied territory—including building a new line from Rostov-on-Don to Crimea via Berdyansk.

In addition to that project, Moscow is pursuing a freight link to Melitopol and modernizing the rail line from Mariupol to Rostov-on-Don, aiming to improve supply chains into occupied Crimea while avoiding Ukrainian missile threats to the Kerch Strait crossing.

Earlier, Ukrainian troops destroyed a Russian locomotive for the first time since the beginning of the full-scale war.
