Ahead of the NATO summit in The Hague, Secretary-General Mark Rutte announced that allied pledges for Ukraine’s defense have reached over $40.2 billion by mid-2025—up from $57.4 billion committed for the full year 2024, as was reported by UNITED24 Media correspondent on June 23.

According to Rutte, “European allies and Canada will jointly contribute over €35 billion [approximately $37.8 billion] in additional security assistance to Ukraine in the coming year. This surge in commitment demonstrates that Ukraine is not forgotten and will continue to receive the help it needs to defend its sovereignty.”

“We have made clear in the communique that defense-spending commitments through 2035 are intrinsically linked to Ukraine’s security needs, ensuring Kyiv remains in the fight for a durable and lasting peace,” Rutte said.

Earlier, New Zealand announced an assistance package, with funds to NATO’s Security Assistance and Training for Ukraine, the UK-Latvian Drone Coalition, humanitarian aid for affected communities, and support for Ukrainian refugees in neighboring countries. The package reflects New Zealand’s condemnation of Russia’s aggression and commitment to a rules-based order. The support underscores allied unity in sustaining Kyiv’s defense efforts.
