NATO Commits $40M to Satellite and Digital Systems for Ukraine’s Defense Forces

NATO has invested nearly $40 million in satellite communication systems for Ukraine’s Defense Forces as part of its Comprehensive Assistance Package, the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense reported on June 24.
The funding has provided Ukrainian forces with advanced equipment, software, and technical assistance aimed at improving digital resilience and strengthening operational capabilities.
The current phase of cooperation includes satellite radios, trackers, and secure communications services. NATO’s contribution is expected to exceed $75 million in the coming months as further projects advance.
The partnership also supports Ukraine’s Innovation and Defense Technology Development Center, including direct collaboration with the team behind the combat management system DELTA.
“Ukraine’s frontline experience in digital transformation — particularly in the use of cloud technologies and artificial intelligence — demonstrates that secure and flexible digital capabilities can be scaled even under the most challenging conditions. It’s a powerful example of innovation and resilience in action,” said Marco Criscuolo, Deputy Director of NATO’s Digital Staff.

To further strengthen digital infrastructure, Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense received a major equipment delivery: 3,000 laptops, 728 printers, 485 tablets, 72 monitors, along with server and networking hardware — all intended to expand the Medical Information System, a core element of Ukraine’s ongoing military medical reform.
NATO and Ukraine are also working to improve interoperability between Ukrainian and Allied systems. Ukraine actively participates in key NATO communications and IT initiatives, including Federated Mission Networking, cloud-based projects, and joint validation exercises.
Additionally, NATO has provided software, equipment, and specialized training to bolster Ukraine’s air defense capabilities. As Russia’s war against Ukraine continues, the Alliance’s investment in secure communications and digital modernization remains a critical pillar of Ukraine’s defense resilience.
Earlier, ahead of the NATO summit in The Hague, Secretary-General Mark Rutte announced that allied commitments to Ukraine’s defense have surpassed $40.2 billion by mid-2025—an increase from the $57.4 billion pledged for the entirety of 2024.
