Ukrainian Foreign Ministry Fires Back After Lavrov Calls Zelenskyy “Pathetic”

Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Heorhii Tykhyi responded to personal attacks made by the Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov against President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
“Instead of Putin coming to meet with President Zelenskyy in Türkiye and have a serious conversation about ending the war and restoring peace, what we hear from Russia are personal insults of the Ukrainian President,” Tykhyi wrote on X.
“Not the first time the Russian foreign ministry becomes a laughing stock. It is also worth noting that the delegation in Türkiye is not led by the Russian foreign ministry—their role is to bark from Moscow.”

Earlier, Lavrov said Zelenskyy appeared “pathetic” for demanding the personal presence of Russian leader Vladimir Putin at negotiations in Istanbul.
“Zelenskyy initially made some statements demanding that Putin attend in person [for Istanbul talks]. A pathetic man. Everyone understands this—except perhaps himself and those pulling his strings,” Lavrov said during a meeting of the Diplomatic Club.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan have begun their meeting in Türkiye, the Anadolu Ajansı reported. However, it was reported that Russian leader Vladimir Putin was not on Russia’s delegation for the upcoming negotiations.
